OVERLAND LAKES Est. 1970
Overland Lakes was founded in 1970 by Vayden Anderson, Overland Sand & Gravel’s Chairman of the Board. “Years ago, I had visited other area lakes and I wanted to be able to build something that would attract people to the beauty of the Platte River area,” explains Vayden. “Looking to the future and all the possibilities was an inspiration to me. Over the years, I have found that one of the best things about living on a lake is being surrounded by nature and the solitude and peace that it offers. With the stress in life today, people need to slow down--they need to be able to get away and be with their family."
Seven lake properties followed with great care taken to meet state and federal regulations. The US Corps of Army Engineers were also consulted where their approval was needed. Housing on these lakes has greatly increased the property tax base in Merrick, Polk and Hamilton counties. A dream was realized, developing sand pit wastelands into beautiful recreation areas.
Lake by lake, lot by lot, Overland Lakes has earned an outstanding reputation for lake development in the central Platte River valley. With over forty years of experience, this translates into a strong dedication in search of excellence.
Subdivisions under the Overland Lakes umbrella include Summerwood Resort, located near Clarks, which consists of Morning Star, Bucktail, Sundance, and Heron Point Lakes. A short drive southeast of Central City, are Turtle Beach and Willow Bend Lakes. Situated south of Silver Creek is Thunderbird Lake. These seven lake properties total an impressive 296 lots.
Since retiring, Vayden has passed the torch to his daughter Holly. Carrying on the Overland Lakes legacy, Holly brings a passion for lake living and the same commitment to excellence. It is with enthusiasm and family pride that the newest lake development, Mariposa, is announced. Planned and developed with attention to every detail, it too will be an asset to the local community.
“My grandfather started mining for gravel and creating lakes in 1944. Almost 75 years later, his great grandchildren have that same love of the water . Simply said, there is nothing like relaxing near a lake and making memories with the people you love.” says Holly. “It is the good life!"
